PADDINGTON CAFÉ

The cafe area at the heart of Paddington Recreation Ground was filled with overgrown shrubs and was tired and dark. The space was unwelcoming and felt smaller than its dimensions. The architecture of the cafe Pavilion had oriental touches on the roof and facade.

The inspiration for the design came from the Chinese game ‘GO’ which uses round stones across grid intersections. We recycled all the original York stone on site and added a new herringbone brick pathway. The space has transformed into a warm welcoming and open space with plenty of external seating.
