Cotswolds Manor Farm

An ongoing project over the past 10-years, this four-acre garden required a careful eye to restore the balance and structure of the many different areas and to create an enjoyable journey between them.

Already laid out as a series of garden ‘rooms’, we redesigned each one with its own personality, created to enhance the characteristics of the historic Arts and Crafts house and introduce a contemporary feel to the garden as a whole.

At the front of the house, a traditional Parterre garden, which had become fussy and cluttered, was simplified into a minimalist space with pure green planting designed to offer a restful view from the house; while the main entrance was redesigned as a courtyard, planted with mature specimen flowering trees to soften the approach and provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.

In the formal garden to the rear, planting areas were re-established and re-proportioned to create a space filled with year-round colour and interest and a grand stone staircase was renovated to its original historic design as a stunning focal point.

Further away from the house, a meadow connects the garden to the wider rural landscape offering a more relaxed environment, with mown pathways leading to a large established Tulip tree and new trees planted to introduce seasonal colour and improve biodiversity.
