Putney Heath

With a brief to incorporate a new garden office, existing play equipment and enough lawn for outdoor sports into this family garden, our masterplan had to work very hard.  We were keen to maintain a country feel to the garden and to ensure that the new garden building did not dominate the space, while enhancing some of the garden’s existing features including a fine old Oak tree.

We introduced soft organic curves into the space, shaping the lawn to create vibrant borders to screen the garden building and a new seating area under the old Oak tree. We also incorporated a generous terrace for family entertaining with bespoke sandstone steps and rendered and painted raised beds.  Our ambition, as with all our projects, was to keep the balance in favour of plants and trees rather hard landscaping details, so we softened the terrace with deep colourful borders filled with an abundance of country-style and wildlife-friendly planting to frame the lawn.

For the front of the house, we designed a formal, elegant and low maintenance garden with Yew pyramid topiary, Birch trees and fastigiate Cherry trees to bring the garden alive in Spring and provide a wonderful welcome home.
